This retrospective cohort study compared two histological classification systems for feline mammary tumors (FMT) in 3-year survival analysis. The 2019 revised surgical pathology classification provided superior stratification of FMT compared to the 1999 WHO classification. Ductal-associated carcinomas demonstrated more favorable prognosis with longer survival times. Multiple adverse clinicopathological features significantly correlated with poor outcomes, including multiple synchronous malignant tumors, larger tumor size, higher clinical stage, infiltrative growth patterns, and lymphovascular invasion (p ≤ 0.05). The study demonstrates that histological classification systems impact prognostic accuracy in feline mammary oncology. Importantly, prognostic relevance of individual parameters varied depending on clinical endpoints assessed, suggesting multifactorial considerations are necessary for clinical interpretation. These findings support adoption of updated classification schemes for improved prognostic stratification and clinical decision-making in feline patients with malignant mammary tumors.
