This retrospective study analyzed computed tomography (CT) findings in 24 dogs with proximal gastrocnemius musculotendinopathy diagnosed between January 2019 and April 2025. CT imaging consistently demonstrated soft tissue swelling and contrast enhancement at the origin of the lateral gastrocnemius head in all affected dogs. Proximal gastrocnemius musculotendinopathy occurred in isolation in 42% of cases; the remaining cases presented concurrent cranial cruciate ligament rupture or lumbosacral stenosis. Conservative management utilizing analgesia and physiotherapy proved successful in 14 of 17 dogs with follow-up data. The study highlights that while CT imaging has inherent limitations compared to magnetic resonance imaging, it provides valuable diagnostic information for identifying proximal gastrocnemius musculotendinopathy. Early recognition of this condition via CT imaging may prevent unnecessary surgical stifle exploration in dogs with suspected cranial cruciate ligament rupture, potentially reducing morbidity and unnecessary interventions.
