This study evaluated the clinical experiences of 20 veterinary students during their final-year rotations in a fully distributed workplace-based training model at the University of Surrey. Analysis of case and skills logs revealed substantial species exposure, with cattle comprising the majority of encounters (468 per student), followed by dogs (172) and horses (85). Clinical competency patterns varied by species: small animals demonstrated highest engagement in physical examination, anesthesia, and diagnostic imaging; equine students showed lower engagement across most skill categories, particularly in reproduction and obstetrics (0%); ruminant students achieved notable competency in reproduction and obstetrics (59%). Surgery and laboratory sample collection showed consistently lower engagement across species. The distributed model successfully provided diverse clinical experiences aligned with general practice competencies. These findings establish benchmarks for veterinary educators and demonstrate that dispersed workplace-based training effectively prepares students for diverse clinical practice scenarios across multiple species.
