Ten medium-breed dogs (15-35 kg) underwent contrast-enhanced CT evaluation to assess spatial relationships between the CCA, MRLN, and adjacent anatomical structures. Twelve cadavers were randomized to undergo bilateral CCA ligation via lateral or ventral approaches, with or without concurrent lymphadenectomy. CT imaging consistently demonstrated the CCA positioned dorsomedial to the MRLN and the MRLN medial to the caudodorsal mandibular salivary gland. Both surgical approaches provided reliable access to the CCA and cervical lymph nodes with successful bilateral ligation in all cadavers and no gross vascular trauma observed. The described technique may reduce intraoperative hemorrhage during maxillofacial surgery while enabling concurrent lymphadenectomy with minimal additional dissection. The approach appears adaptable for temporary or permanent unilateral or bilateral CCA ligation. Clinical validation in live dogs undergoing maxillofacial procedures is needed to determine feasibility and identify potential intraoperative complications.
