This case report describes the successful transvenous occlusion of a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in a domestic shorthair cat using the Amplatzer™ Vascular Plug II (AVP II). A three-month-old male intact cat was initially presented for evaluation of a heart murmur and diagnosed with a left-to-right shunting PDA via transthoracic echocardiography. At eight months of age, the patient underwent interventional closure via a transjugular approach, which proved technically feasible and successful. PDA is an uncommon but clinically significant congenital cardiac defect in cats, and left-to-right shunting variants lead to volume overload of the left heart with risk of progressive cardiac dilation and congestive heart failure if left untreated. While surgical ligation remains a described option, minimally invasive catheter-based closure is preferred in dogs and is becoming increasingly explored in cats. Non-surgical closure options in cats are sparsely reported in the veterinary literature, and use of the AVP II specifically has been described in only one prior feline case. This report adds to the limited evidence base supporting catheter-based PDA closure in cats and highlights the transjugular venous approach as a viable interventional alternative.
