This retrospective study evaluated the clinical efficacy and safety of canine parvovirus monoclonal antibody (CPMA) combined with standardized supportive care (SOC) versus SOC alone in shelter dogs with naturally occurring canine parvovirus (CPV). Electronic medical records from 112 CPV-positive dogs treated at a dedicated parvovirus treatment center between June 2020 and May 2024 were reviewed. Dogs admitted prior to August 2023 received SOC alone (n=49), while those admitted thereafter received CPMA (0.2 mL/kg IV) plus SOC (n=63). CPMA-treated dogs demonstrated significantly shorter hospitalization duration (median 2 vs 4 days) and reached isolation release criteria—defined as two consecutive negative CPV ELISA tests—sooner (median 5 vs 6.5 days). Mortality rates did not differ significantly between groups (17% vs 22%). Maximum medication scores and overall cost of care were not statistically different between groups; however, CPMA-treated dogs showed a real-world median cost reduction of $978.50. One CPMA-treated dog experienced an anaphylactic reaction, which resolved with supportive care. The non-randomized, retrospective design and temporal separation of treatment groups represent notable limitations. Nevertheless, findings suggest CPMA accelerates clinical recovery and reduces isolation time in shelter CPV patients, potentially improving animal welfare, mitigating behavioral risks associated with prolonged isolation and medical trauma, and facilitating earlier adoption. CPMA appears to be a clinically effective and safe adjunct to SOC for naturally occurring CPV infections in shelter environments.
