Summary

This case report describes the first documented occurrence of canine subconjunctival dirofilariasis caused by Dirofilaria repens in Thailand. A 5-year-old female mixed-breed indoor dog presented with a subconjunctival mass in the temporal region of the left eye. Surgical excision was performed, revealing a long, slender white-creamy nematode. Histopathological examination confirmed eosinophilic granulomatous inflammation, and molecular analysis of the mitochondrial genome identified the parasite as D. repens with 99.8% sequence coverage. Treatment combined surgical removal with selamectin spot-on application and doxycycline administration. The conjunctival wound healed completely within two weeks post-operatively without complications or recurrence. The temporary tarsorrhaphy was removed at two weeks follow-up. This case is significant as it represents the first confirmed report of D. repens-induced ocular manifestation in dogs in Thailand and highlights the zoonotic potential of this vector-borne nematode transmitted via mosquito bites in the region.
