This study evaluated the feasibility of using a human eye bank specular microscope to assess the ovine corneal endothelium. Twenty-four corneas from 12 one-year-old male sheep were examined with four central endothelial images analyzed per cornea using semi-automated methods. The specular microscope successfully obtained high-quality images from all corneas and calculated endothelial parameters including endothelial cell density (ECD: 3198.3 ± 428.3 cells/mm²), average cell area (AVE: 318.7 ± 42.3 μm²), coefficient of variation in cell size (CV: 38.0% ± 7.9%), and percentage of hexagonal cells (HEX: 57.7%). No statistically significant differences were found between right and left eyes for any parameter. The findings demonstrate that human eye bank specular microscopy is a reliable tool for visualizing and quantitatively analyzing sheep corneal endothelium, suggesting its practical application in experimental and translational veterinary ophthalmology research.
